Local Wildlife - 2010
This year I'm embarking on a long-term project to showcase local wildlife. The speed at which we live our lives has never been faster giving us little time to stop and consider what's around us. The truth is our towns are teaming with wildlife although we rarely get to appreciate it.
Since moving to Derbyshire I have been really excited about beginning a project to give out local wildlife a closer inspection. In Ashbourne we have a healthy population of house sparrows ā a bird that has seriously declined in recent years. Areas around Ashbourne also support one of the best strongholds for the fasted declining mammal in the UK ā the water vole.
To make this project a success Iām looking for local residents to clue me into nearby wildlife hotspots. Do you feed foxes? Have you got house martins above your window? Are you a landowner with an interest in nature? If yes, get in touch with me and together we can show off the fantastic array of wildlife on our doorsteps. Drop me a line with the contact link below or by using the feedback page above.
